Short Story...

The Man Whom I Met During Travel

During Summer Vacations, I decided to do some adventure. Then suddenly, I got an idea. The idea was to visit Amazon Rainforest (World’s Largest River Basin).

When I entered it was all dark because of the thick canopy of the forest. I stared discovering the things in forest as I was not knowing much about it.

When I was traveling, I met a person named Sam. He was also over there for some adventure. He was a tall man with t-shirt and trousers. He was a young and fun man. I told him why I am here. He then, told me that he is lucky to have me over there. As I was not knowing anything he told many interesting facts about forest.

The first thing was that it takes above 10 min to rain to reach the ground because of its thick canopy. It has large variety of mammals such as jaguars, sloths, puma, anteaters, and armadillos.

It is also home to many reptiles and insects such as python, anaconda (World’s Largest Snake), crocodiles, ant beetles and butterflies.

Beside this a large variety of fishes are found over here such as Piranha (World’s Largest Freshwater Fish) and dolphins. Here, you can enjoy by climbing trees, fishing and enjoy seeing the variety birds.

Here we met many tribal people for whom amazon was there home. But, because of deforestation they were losing their homes. It was sad because I was also able to imagine that what would happen if we lost our houses.

And because of the construction of Trans-Amazonian Highway these forests were accessible to outside world.

But then, we enjoyed over there also. They taught us hunting and we also made houses for us.

We also got to known about Slash and Burn Agriculture where they use to burn few trees on a piece of land and the ashes of trees made the soil fertile for agriculture.

We ate their staple food called Mancos.

Its not only the forest I loved but I loved the people over there. Who did not know me but helped me a lot during my journey. I first understood the problem about deforestation. I promised them, “Do not worry now, No one will destroy your houses.”

Later, Me and Sam wrote a letter regarding problems faced by the people living in forest.

                                      The Letter is as following,

Subject – “Conservation of Forest “

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to request you about stopping the cutting of trees.

Recently, I visited Amazon Rainforest, where I met the tribal people of amazon. According to them, we the human are destroying their homes. Due to the construction of Trans-Amazonian Highway these forests are accessible to the outside world. Also cutting of trees causes pollution of air, water, and land. It will also affect the water cycle of the America. It will also reduce the amount of oxygen. This all can led to the end of the world.

So, I request you to stop allowing for cuttings of trees.

After writing the letter, I struggled a lot of difficulties like you have come from India and you do not teach our government what to do. We can make our own decisions for our country. But the final decision made by the president was to stop the cutting of trees. He was really satisfied with what I wrote in letter.

After this, He invited me to meet him personally. Then on 2 June, I met him. It was nice to meet him. I did not know that doing some adventure would lead me to meet the president of UK. This is all like a dream to me. A dream that I achieved for someone.

Moral- Helping others can make them happy but the feeling that we get after giving happiness to someone is of different level.
